At ABM, the safety of our team members, our customers, and the public is always of primary importance in everything that we do. In light of the developing situation regarding COVID-19, we remain vigilant in monitoring the most up-to-date safety, infection control and cleaning protocols recommended by global experts, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the UK Chief Medical Officer, the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS specialists amongst others.

We are engaged with our safety and operations teams globally to ensure the appropriate information is shared and that the needs of customers and team members are met.

There are preventative steps you can take now, and we can help.

Step One: Return Safely

A comprehensive site assessment produces a framework for wellbeing that helps build occupant trust. A one-time deep cleaning of your site readies your facilities for occupancy.

Step Two: Frequent High-Touch Disinfection

A recurring cleaning and disinfection programme further instils occupant confidence. Occupant communications reiterate mutual social contracts.

Step Three: Disinfect Broadly

Electrostatic spraying that goes beyond high-touch point disinfection resets facilities. Broader disinfection at periodic intervals based on your facility’s risk profile.

If you would like additional services outside the standard scope of work and contract, such as more frequent cleaning for high traffic areas, please either contact your local ABM representative or call 0207 089 6600 and select option 8.

Prevention of COVID-19

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19, however, we all play a role in helping to prevent the spread of viruses. The WHO recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of any respiratory disease – be it COVID-19 or the flu – including:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are coughing or sneezing
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue away immediately
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty

Cleaning

Routine Environmental Cleaning

With the exception of specific guidelines in certain settings such as healthcare facilities and airlines, the CDC recommends performing the following routine environmental cleaning that may help prevent exposures to acute respiratory illness, including COVID-19:

  • Routinely clean all frequently touched surfaces in the workplace, such as workstations, countertops and doorknobs. Use cleaning agents that are usually used in these areas and follow the directions on the label.
  • No additional disinfection beyond routine cleaning is recommended at this time.
  • Provide disposable wipes so that commonly used surfaces (for example, doorknobs, keyboards, remote controls, desks) can be wiped down before each use.

Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection

Outside of the healthcare context and other special settings, in areas where people with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 have visited, CDC recommends the cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces followed by disinfection. For offices and other facilities where people are not housed overnight, CDC recommends that:

  • Areas used by ill persons be closed off, doors and windows be opened and, if possible, cleaning and disinfection not occur for up to 24 hours.
  • Cleaning staff clean and disinfect all areas (e.g., offices, toilets, and common areas) used by the ill persons, focusing especially on frequently touched surfaces.
  • Disinfection occurs with most common Environment Agency’s ‘emerging pathogens’ disinfectants, diluted bleach solutions (if appropriate for the surface), or alcohol solutions with at least 70 percent alcohol. Porous surfaces should be disinfected with products with Environment Agency’s ‘emerging pathogens’ claims.

If any of these tasks is outside your current scope of work and contract, and you would like to add these services, please contact your local ABM representative or contact us.
